E-brake blew my fuel system

I was driveing along was screwing around and used my e-brake to start a drift and the seconed I pulled my e-brake the fuel system went down! fried some relays but it still will not send power to my fuel pump.

one other question where exactly is my ecu so I don't have to tear apart my hole dash?

My car is a 87 GXL

What exacly does the sensor or what ever the thing is on the e-brake do is there some kind of fuseable link of braker that it attachs to or does it ground out your fuel system if you are moving and use it?

Thats the sensor that tells the brake dash light if the brake is on or off.

do we have some kind of relays that just turns on the fuelpump?

I dont see how it could be your handbrake switch. The brake fluid level, Ign. Switch and the hand brake switch are all in parallel, and ground a light in the warning light system (forgot what its called!).
So even if you had shorted it out, all it could do is turn on the brake warning light permanently.
Look elsewhere for your problem. Yes, a relay does turn on the fuel pump.
Lift the rear carpet and remove the metal hatch you see there. Beneath are the fuel pump connections which are usually in very poor shape. You can clean these up VERY carefully, and check that the local ground connection is o/k. Use your meter to check if power to the pump is there. Report back what you find.
Dave
P.S you should get access to a copy of the on-line FSManual. All this info is in there! Do a search on this site. D.

I don't know exactly what caused the short in my system but I posted what happened. I have replaced the relays that fried. and yes I alredy downlaoded the manuel from ilovmy7.com or something like that and now I have amost every thing fixed. when I use the bypass by the air box the fuel pump turns on. what do I need to replace I serched the forum for the thread I read earlyer about this problem but I can't find it or remember exaclty what it said.

did you check the main fuel pump relay? under the drivers side dash, right next to the steering column. little white and yellow? relay box with 5 or 6 wires. you may want to check that.

if you have to bypass the AFM, thats probably the problem. If you shorted something out, theres a good chance you fried the AFM anyway.

If you jumpered the AFM door switch, that won't short anything out. After all, you're providing a ground to the circuit opening relay coil (in other words, that "side" of the circuit is grounded anyway, even during normal operation). And IF something did short in that relay/pump circuit (which should result in a blown 15A "engine" fuse), it wouldn't affect the AFM's important circuit (the one to the ECU), because they are totally seperate...

I'd check the fuel pump first...A shorting pump in the fuel tank is the LAST place you'd want arcing & sparking, lol...

Shouldn't have used the E-Brake to try and drift. Sucks, but still.

it was probably coincidental cause by the inertia of of the body roll shorting a wire on the chassis, i would pull up the carpet and follow the fuel pump circuit wires and check for chafing, it may save you some headache of getting stranded somewhere again. but that is just me, i like to be more safe than sorry.

i think i about explained the best way to prevent it, the other would be HOURS of extensive ohm checking and visual checking. just check your wiring harnesses that are effectively operating the relays and the ones running back to your fuel pump.

Simple answer, next time try a true braking drift.
There are other forms of drift above and beyond a simple powerslide.
