Like many urban myths there could be some facts in the story. While I serious doubt it had any effect the way he plumbed things, I have seen vacuum pumps create HP on piston engines. The only difference is they were sucking on the crankcase not blowing in the intake. A couple psi vacuum in there I'm told can give as much as 20 HP on those huge cid engines(500+ cu in). I may give it a try next time I put one on the dyno.

 

you should try to run 2 air pumps intake and exhaust you might just get 80 free horse power,just like my rotary Vtec with 16 valves,i drilled holes to make it 24 valves while i was high.Its mad fast yo!! i bee killing V8s all day.
