Dropping the oil pan?

I searched but the only guides I found were for 1st and 3rd gens.

Is there anyway to drop the oil pan without pulling the engine? I tried today and I couldn't get the engine up high enough the get at the bolts under the front cover.

Take off the mounts if you have a cherry picker that helps. Hook it up and just lift up. You should be able to get it with a 10mm wrench.

Remove the fan and shroud, then work from the top. You can definitely get to those front cover bolts. If you don't have a cherry picker (doubt you would), then unbolt both engine mounts and lift the engine by placing a jack under the bellhousing of the transmission (I suggest a block of wood as well). Drain the oil and unbolt the pan, drop it down, clean it REALLY well, and replace the gasket/ make one from silicone.

Yeah super easy if you just take the fan shroud off and lift the engine high enough. IIRC I was able to get at the front cover bolts with a 1/4" ratchet and shallow 10mm.

I tried to jack the engine up via the bellhousing, but I actually lifted the front end of the car and still did not get enough clearance to get a wrench in there. Maybe I'm doing something wrong...?

Did you unbolt the motor mounts first? There are 2 bolts under the car, 19mm i think, maybe smaller. Unbolt them, then jack the engine up.

The oil pan removal procedure is covered in both the Haynes and FSM.

Just unbolt the passenger side mount and raise the engine slightly using the transmission. You need a swivel socket to get the front set of bolts.

To reinstall, use a gasket with a skim coat of RTV on each side and slightly longer M6 bolts with wide washers.
