drop in voltage?
I am having trouble starting my new motor(80miles on it). I can not crank the motor with the battery alone, I need to put a 100A booster on it and it cranks and cranks and cranks and after about 5-10 mins of cranking(with lots a cool downs) it will begin to sputter then finally fire up. I do believe I need a new battery but I wanted to exhaust all other options before hand. I check the leading coil connector and WITH the booster I am only seeing 10.5V and 6.5 without. Is there any reason as to why there is such a drop? The dash volt meter shows around 15.5v with the booster on. Any help would be awesome, I want to drive this thing and have it reliable.

Does it still feel sluggish while your cranking with the booster? Cause it shouldnt unless your booster is also shot. Chances are your flooding it out. If you only have 80miles on the engine then you should still be in the break-in period.

If it didnt run when you first got it, how does it run now? Did you get the engine rebuilt? If you got it rebuilt and there is only 80 miles on the engine like you say there is then your engine is either probably still building compression from the build and/or flooding easily. Worst case scenario: it was a half-assed build with too much clearance. I'm not an expert on this so hopefully somebody with more experience can chime in on this. Hopefully it just needs a complete tune-up. Good luck and be patient with her...there's nothing like an RX, once you get her running you'll fall in love with her. They just tend to need a bit more pampering. As to your voltage readings, I dont know too much on that so maybe HAILERS could clear some things up for you. And I'm assuming you actually mean 80 miles and not 80k.

well it ran, he started it for me a few times before I bought it but he said it had a broken apex seal so I didnt run it. I was just saying that I never ran it so I didnt know how fast they actually crank. It really only has 80 miles on it. I did the rebuild myself and the clearances are to spec. The FSM said that at the coil connector there should be 12v. Thank you for your help!
