downpipe upgrade makes no power?
downpipe upgrade makes no power?
Last night we took my friend's 87 TII down to the drag strip. Since our new RB Complete Exhaust System downpipe hadn't arrived, we decided to use the old Complete Exhaust System downpipe that a junkyard had sliced up (pic below).
I know with the complete exhaust system the car should run more boost and make a ton more power, so we figured this downpipe should make at least as much since it's even less restrictive. The problem is, it didn't seem to make ANY more power. The noise was incredible, as was the boost response... it no longer really felt like a turbocharged car because there was no lag whatsoever. But in the end it doesn't seem to be any faster.
We had an FCD installed, but we were still running the stock fuel pump. At one point the O2 sensor wire either tore out or melted off, but fixing it didn't seem to make any difference. Is there something else I'm overlooking that could cause it to not be any faster?

A restrictive air filter would be the first place to start.
that downpipe, because it is dumped, should have definitely given you power that you can physically feel over the stock system.
