if i install a racingbeat downpipe on my 88 SE to the manifold can i attach the converter directly to it? will the flanges line up? and then just run a flange and extension pipe to the existing y-pipe?

Go to www.racingbeat.com Your question is answered there. The stock cat will not bolt up to any of the racing beat products, as they are not intended to. You can have an exhaust shop weld up a custom cat for you however to fit were the presilencer goes.
