Double Din Setup help

I have a '90 GXL with a single DIN head unit and a broken installation kit . So I have been looking around and i have seen a handful of setups like 1Fast2 has with the stereo on the bottom and gauges on top (FREAKING LOVE IT!). But seeing as he only made a few and if you happen to be lucky enough to find one for sale they want big bucks, it looks like I have to make my own. I've gone through and seen where i have to start with a double din kit but don't know where to find one that will fit. Any help is appreciated and if anyone has done this themselves i would love to see or read a quick run through.

Stock radio chassis allows you to bolt a radio in, all a kit does is give you blanks for the top or bottom.
For my coupe i bought a $15 panel from summit and attached it to the chassis. In my vert i made a panel out of fiberglass. Neither car had an "installation kit"
