Door speaker pics PLEASE

Please post pics of your door speaker install. I was wanting to see what others have done. To get some ideas. Im talking about custom fabrication pics, because my car doesn’t have a place for speakers in the doors and im going to fabricate something. I have a 87 tii if that helps. Please state what size and the mounting depth of your speakers.

if you want a stock look (or the easy solution), you can get an s5 door skin and put speakers behind those. i cant remeber if you have to cut the sheet metal though.

The size for a speaker in that area isnt very big, nor is it in an optimal aural postion. Best off having a custom panel made angling the speaker out and up a bit then mounting a tweeter somewhere like say a special panel on the backing of the mirror?
Sound good?

Also search the Interior/ Exterior/ Audio Section. I started a thread there asking about this exact thing.

Oh yeah here's a pic, not my car, but nice regardless.

BTW that tweeter is in a terrible place IMO.

I agree that the tweeter is in a bad place, because your leg would get in the way. But the tweeter should be as close to the speaker as posible. Im looking at my car and wouldnt the window track get in the way. What is the mounting depth on those alpines.

infiniti kappa components have the shallowest mounting depth, and they sound pretty good.

not relly. a lot of the highend brands like Infiniti, Benz, MB, etc etc with Bose and/or Infinity soundsystems dont have the tweeters and speakers close together. on our infiniti qx5 with the bose we have the speakers near the feet on the door and the tweeters on the dash aimed at the windows so it can reflect the sound back to you.

How did you manage to get that to fit? Even with the shallow speakers I have, I don't think it would work, without hacking into the doors metal skin.....

Doesn;t even look as if you have much of a spacer??

The Alpine Type R speakers have about a 2.5 inch mounting depth (for the 6.5 inch model). One option is to install speakers in the stock place, and mount the component tweeters above the ash tray/below the cd deck. Its not the best location by any means, but does sound ok -definatly helps the 4.5" speakers in the stock locations.

I don't have any pictures, but i have type r's in the factory location in my doors...and only needed a couple washers and some sound dampening material to make them clear the windows. The tweeters are in the triangle plastics pieces that cover the screws to the sideview mirrors.

The general rule with tweeters is if it's any further than 12-15 inches, they will start to go out of phase with the main speaker, so you would need to switch the negative/positive wires on the tweeter to bring them back around....best thing to do is mount the tweeters, and if it's a good distance away from the main speaker, just switch the wires to see which sounds best.

It fits, yes we had to space it out quite a bit. That moulding stick out more than 3/4" as you can tell by the dust settled on it. I think we put some kind of a small spacer under the upholstery too but i cant remember its been so long, definately no cutting. Those speakers are pretty old now, i dont recall the model # or dimensions anymore.

Hey Guys,

This is what I ended up with after nagging all you guys for pics....

Only got one door done so far but I can pretty happy with the results so far... I had to make some compromise on looks to make the install easier, but I still like the outcome.

I ended up covering the centre door panel to make everything look a bit more modern and so the pod would match.

if you ever get a chance to fiberglass that to the door, it'd look better but I'll still say good job as I'm sure that was hard and sounds nice.

Couldn't you mount them as far apart as you want as long as the length of wiring is the same for both? ya know like, coil up the standard and sub wires to get the speaker closer with the same ammount of wiring.

Longer wires introduce higher potential for interference. I think it looks good where and how you mounted them, though do you plan on evening out the bunching of the fabric around the speaker?

I did plan on it, but after recovering them 3 times I gave up, I just don't think the fabric is stretchy enough to do it without wrinkles...
So I have decided I can live with the wrinkles
