That is not usually the piece. What I have come to read about and actually experiece myself is that the metal actually fractures and then breaks on the handle itself. Here is a picture... Door handle
i was havin trouble with my door locks and it turned out the clip had jus come off and wasnt actually busted so it jus took couple min too get the panel off then a couple min cliping the thing back together

It's a piece of junk.
Mazda got caught up with trying to drop the weight of the car, a lot of parts are made of aluminum.
Non-imporant parts like the door handle is aluminum, but because of increased cost trying to make a billet part, they went with a cheapie cast piece of junk.
This is why Mazda isn't up the same quality level as Honda and Toyota.

Its not a piece of junk. They just didnt have neough time to perfect it.
Because the head engineer only had 2 weeks to drop 150 lbs ( or something like that not sure) from the original desing or else would of been taxed as gas guzzler. And after getting all the engineers for each specific part they got rid of around 400 lbs. ( from 3150 lbs to 2650 lbs 1986 gxl ).
So please dont call it a piece of junk. Yes they do crack. Yes there 20 years old.

Their engineers SUCK.
You see "small miracles" like this done almost everyday in Formula 1.

Yes, they can be up to 30+ years old!
Why? Cause they are steel.
Age has nothing to do with it.
Oh, last time I checked, the first FC was made in 1985 - they haven't hit 20 years yet.
