Don't tell Mazdaspeed7!

Hey all…the guy who just here installing our new air handler saw the '87 Sport out in the garage and told me he has an '89 black 'vert he wants to get rid of. It has 140k miles and he knows nothing about rotaries except that he loves RX7s. He has two of them. He will sell me the 89 for basically nothing. It runs. No body or interior damage. The car starts, idles and moves. He says it bogs down under load and can't get to rev past 2000 rpm. Any ideas? He said he brought it to Mazda(!) and of course they told him $4000 to replace oil metering pump and AFM. He had another mech do it to no avail. He's had it sitting now and just wants to get rid of it. Would be nice to adjust the TPS and drive home in it!

P.S. don't tell Mazdaspeed7…I just told him yesterday that I'd keep an eye out for a 'vert for him and he found himself a nice TII! Now, maybe if wanted to trade…

Oh. My. God.
I'll buy it!
How much is "next to nothing"?

Weird problem though- sound to me like a clogged cat or leaky injectors! That's all!
f course- an engine with a few blownseals will do the same thing- but it would run REALLY rough, and likely blow smoke

I wasn't going to rub it in…but since you asked…$100. The guy has no clue. I feel a little guilty, I'd feel worse if he just kept it sitting outside.

I'll do another search on the board…I thought I read recently about someone with that same problem. The dude even replaced the fuel pump and, according to him, had the ECU reprogrammed/refurbished in Miami(?) to try and fix this problem. I'm drooling right now. DROOLING!

damn.. jacksonville, Florida????

Try this to fix it:
Go to autozone, get a couple of 4GA ground cable, get some new battery terminals while you are at it. Run a ground from the battery to the block, the shorter the better, run a 2nd to the body of the car. If that does not fix the problem run a third ground.

If the car has been sitting for a while, get some fuel system water remover, if that helped a little bit, get under the rear of the car with a huge sealable container and drain all the gas out when its almost full.

If that does not work, run a fuel system pressure check and you may even consider doing a compression check while you are at it.

Let me know where its located so i can go pick it up, reyrey68@hotmail.com or TRUDSL on aol or 765 447 1624

hope this helps man..
thanks

Just so you all know, the 'vert is already gone and I've never even seen it! I let some rotorhead in Savannah have it. I get the BBS wheels and a fresh s4 13b with s5 rotors and this guy gets the 'vert he's been looking for. Aren't I a nice guy?

You're welcome! Like I said on the phone, it was very strange because the guy was in my garage when I came home and you and I had just chatted about keepig an eye out! You were meant to have this car…especially, as the guy says the roses painted around it are very pretty and the naked chicks etched in the glass are very well done!

I talked to the owner, and I am getting it, and plan on picking it up sometime this week, or possibly weekend.

BTW, the owner gave me a very detailed description of the engine problem, and I feel very confident that it is JUST a bad TPS.
