Mine does, and I don't know if it's becuase rotories are easier to turn over then a piston engine or not. If I park on a hill, it'll slowly jerk and roll down the hill. The e-brake doesn't work either, so I've been avoiding anything but flat parking lots, lol.

since cars can roll in gear, i imagine that they could roll down a hill. the degree of the incline i would say is an important variable. time to park it against a curb.

Is the nose of your car pointing up or down on the hill and what gear do you leave it in?

good point. if its in first, it would have more trouble (if possible) to roll *** first down a hill, right ? thats what i assume you're getting at.

haha, I got pulled over on the city limits of a local mining town... cop wanted me to get out of the car (I have no ebrake) and I was like... uhhhmmmm....

I hesistated for a couple minutes, and told him I had no ebrake. He was like... "right, im not falling for that" and he demanded I get out. So I got out and the car started to roll the entire driveline backwards.

He was pretty damn quick to put his flashlight under the tire though.

haha. do you have to get out of the car if they ask? i can't think of why you would, unless youre one of those "do what the man in blue says" kind of people. kinda funny about the car rolling.

I dunno... he was pretty direct, and there was two city cops, + hp came up (since I stopped basicaly right next to the city limits sign)

He said I was swerving from lane to lane

On a 4 lane road at 3am where its dark as **** in a forest, and theres absolutely no traffic around, I ride the middle of the two right lanes... I've always done this. If you knew how much large wildlife that likes to cross in front of cars, you'ld know why...

I saw a car so I went back into one lane. The car turned out to be a cop and he swung around and said I was swerving...

i havnt even driven an rx7 yet, but i was watching speed and the guy who drove the 787b in the lemans race said something about how he didnt get any engine brake from it being a rotary. i guess that would have to do with parking it too, the rotors just spin more easily than pistons i guess. mabey reverse will work better for you.

check mazdamark.com for the actual gear ratios. reverse is between 1st and 2nd.
as for engine brake, it reminds me of battery ratings. they are rated by amps to CID. the bigger the engine, the more amps. by that, we're only 80, but i'm not sure how much they relate.

gear ratios:
86-87 5spd:
1st 3.475
2nd 2.002
3rd 1.366
4th 1.000
5th .711
rev 3.493

mid 87-91 5spd:
1st 3.475 turbo: 3.483
2nd 2.002 2.015
3rd 1.366 1.391
4th 1.000 1.000
5th .697 .719 (87 [incl mid 87] - 88 - .762)
rev 3.493 3.288 (90-91 not specified)

turbos have lower 1st, n/as dont.

Even with a brand new rebuild mine will roll down my (sorta steep) driveway. I don't have a parking brake so I have to chock it with wood every time I wash it

Hey,

Yeah it sure does! put it in first, it stops, rolls, clunks (diff mount!), and so on! now that I have my e-brake button I have no worries!

Ah, good to know that something isn't completely screwed up in my car.

I'm going to get some of those professional looking Pep Boys wheel chocks to keep around even after my e-brake is fixed. I can always use them in the mean-time

i never really HAVE to use my e-brake, unless i'm on neutral ground, but i do anyways.

correct me if i'm wrong.

i just put it in first if the *** of the car is pointing down and put it in reverse if the nose is pointing down... it stops it from rolling completely...

you can put your steering wheel appropriately to stop your car.

turn it into the street so when it rolls the curb stops it.

any car will roll in any gear without the hand brake on a steep enough hill. and it doesnt even have to be that steep.

depending on how steep the hill is...yeah. Steep hill = car pushes tires turning driveline turning engine.

I suppose in the jist of things to be worried about, your engine is revolving without lube! Oh... and your car is rolling down a hill.

The rotor bearings/etc will still have pressure, since the oil pump will be running. And it will turn backwards, just depends on how steep the hill is
