So, what do you think? Aside from clogging a fuel filter and damaging the fuel pump, can a rusty gas tank change chemical composistion of gas and affect engines ability to run?
I know rust is an oxidation reaction and whatnot, but does it react w/ the gas too?
I've asked two techs at my workplace and gotten different answers... one said yes, the other no

Regardless, my gas tank will either be changed or cleaned with chemicals they make for gas tanks. I'm just trying to think of eveything that is still preventing my car to run right.

AFAIK, rust (iron oxide) and petrol (hydrocarbons, mainly heptane and octane) are both chemically stable compounds and don't react together at all. The rust particles will just clog your filter, reducing fuel flow and making your engine run crappy.
