Does the MOP supply oil at idle/light throttle ? What about with no throttle linkage?

Okay I sware I did not do this. The dumb *** who owned my 86 base before me forgot to reinstall the MOP throttle linkage. The car has had SOME premix in it and has not been driven much. I am going to check compression soon, but I think this motor is dead. Is there any chance that the apex seals could have gotten some oil if the linkage was off of the MOP and the spring was holding it closed? Does the MOP flow if the little cam inside of it sits closed... or looks closed? Is is closed?

so none of you on here know what I am talking about or what. I don't see how it can flow with the cam closed but humor me. If it only injects like 1000:1 anyway then a very small amount of premixed oil should keep it very safe. Still seems odd that is would just close completely at idle.

what you are asking is not just a straight-forward answer.....it can depend on how you drive and how many miles it has been like that. Obviously the harder you drive the harder it would be on the seals. And you are right--it cannot flow without the linkage attached properly. How does it run now with premix in? Do the compression check as soon as you can. That will be the best thing to tell you what's up in there.

It would really depend on the position the MOP was stuck at with no linkage right? At least in my case, when I bought the car the linkage was missing, as well as the return spring on the MOP. It was stuck OPEN. This was only detected by me when I started noticing an extreme amount of oil usage. Like 1qt per 300 miles...Then I learned about the MOP, and found mine was not functioning...

If he "forgot" to install it, it should be flowing oil at its least. The MOP will supply a minimal amount of oil at idle, but of course, won't change variably to match the speed of your engine while driving.

He might have done this because when you premix it, you scrap the MOP.

If it was premixed correctly, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. And i'd say that if you drove it really hard for an extended period of time you'd probably be looking at internal engine damage. But it sounds like you probably caught it just in time.

Are you experiencing any other problems you think the MOP might be related to?

it does not run right. it has lots of problems. doesn't want to idle. doesn't want to start. revs great once running but wont idle hot below 1300 Rpms. massive vacume leaks. the works. compression test to come. I am really interested to know if the MOP feeds any oil at idle. after looking at it on the work bench, it looks like it probably lets the motor run dry at idle and off throttle. Anyone know?
