i pulled my plugs the other day and they are black and oily im guessing this means a blown apex seal meaning a rebuild but i wanted to hear what u guys had to say. the car is a 1986 gxl n/a if that helps any

a bad apex will not cause oily plugs bad oil control rings will cause an oily plug. check the discharge of the oil metering pump and make sure that the oil injectors close when vacum is applied to them or you may have too much oil being sprayed into the housing. if its a turbo check your intake hooked tot he turbo and see if the oil seal is gone in the compression side of the turbo

Yeah no sense in telling a noob to check all this ****, which is probably OK anyway.
If the plugs are black thats completely normal, if they're oily then you might have a problem. If you're not loosing coolant or oil and it doesn't have starting problems and runs OK you're good to go.

i pulled the plugs today out of boredome and they were covered with liquid and it smelled like gas and i havent ran the car since i last pulled the plugs and cleaned them so im guessin it was gas lol so would this mean leaky fuel injectors but also after i cleaned the plugs and put them back in it started right up but it smoked like CRAZY!!! white smoke and when i went to the back of the car after running it it looked like it had sprayed something out of the tailpipe but only one of them (the right one if your lookin at the back of the car) but the liquid didnt seem to have a smell to it and it was clearish brown any help you guys can give would be appreciated i just dont know with this car one day it seems to be fine and the next everything is failing. o ya and i did a compression test on it and it came out with 100 on the front rotor and 90 on the rear if that helps any.

I love it when everyone assumes it needs a rebuild...
Flat tire? Damn. Time to rebuild the engine.
Someone busted in the window and yanked the stereo? Rebuild the engine.
Left the lights on and the battery is dead? I guess I better spring for a rebuild.
Fuel tank's empty? Oh you know what time it is.
LOL.
Anyhow, OP might wanna look into some videos on how the rotary engine works.

Check the pics and videos...
You'll note that in the center of the rotor, there's the eccentric shaft. That and the area around it is full of oil... The inside of the rotor is hollow and it's full of oil too. (To cool the rotor)
There are rings around the center hole of the rotor. These are oil control rings. If these are bad, it may indeed need a rebuild.
However, the rotary is designed to burn a little bit of oil. If you look on the side of the engine near the exhaust manifold, towards the front, there's an oil metering pump. It has four clear plastic pipes the run up to the intake and to the side of the rotor housing. These pipes carry oil to lubricate the seals in the engine.
On S4s there's a rod that connects the pump to the throttle. More throttle = more oil.
Possibly that rid is misadjusted and adding excess oil to the engine.
Does the engine smoke heavily when it's running? All the time or just when you start it up?
How much oil do you go through after 1000 miles?
