Does a 1988 car need emissions in the state of virginia?

If it does, what's the year that a car does not need emissions? I believe there is some year where the car is so old it doesn't matter. Just wanted to check that out. Thanks a bunch.

 

Yes. Check the laws for your county though. More than likely you do though. 88 is not old enough to go without emmissions though.

I think the year is around 72... atleast in NC it is.

heya, thanks for your help.... maybe I'll move to WV, we're buying this car from a dealer and they did the safety check but not emissions... prolly gonna go do that now.

 

I used to live in Bedford, VA and they never required an emissions inspection. You got a regular inspection and that was that. No sniffer test or anything of that nature. Perhaps different laws on emissions in Alexandria?
