The fuel pump Circuiy Opening Relay is mounted under the dash near the steering column. It has a yellow base and a white plug. It only closes if it sees either a start signal from the ignition key or an airflow signal from the AFM. The pump won't run if you just turn the ignition on.

You should be looking in the FSM for this stuff, both the EFI and Wiring Diagrams chapters.

Factory Service Manual. Go to www.iluvmyrx7.com/2nd_gen_manuals.htm and download it in PDF format for free. The wiring diagrams are one of the chapters.

I know for a fact that on any 89-92 RX7, the fuel pump relay is exactly where TWEAK said it is: directly behind the pasenger side headlight. As for the 86-88 Rx7's, I'm honestly not sure...

If you want "facts", you should be looking in the FSM...

The resistor/relay behind the headlight is for the fuel pump 2-speed system. It has no control over whether or not the fuel pump runs, only whether it gets full battery voltage or lower voltage.

That thing is the two-stage voltage controller for the fuel pump.
NZConvertible is right - that not what most people would normally call the "fuel pump relay".

There are several things to check here. The fuel pump relays don't seem to go bad terribly often on these cars.

The first thing to do is jumper the fuel pump test connector. Again, read the FSM (I'm not sure where it is on the TII), but you jumper this connector, and the fuel pump will run any time the ignition is on. If this works, then the fuel pump relay isn't the problem.

The other, more common problem, is in the airflow meter. The airflow meter actually controls the fuel pump's operation. If the flapper is open, the fuel pump is on, otherwise it's off (unless the engine is cranking). This is a safety issue - if the engine suffers fuel loss from, say, a ruptured fuel line, the fuel pump shouldn't continue dumping fuel onto the ground.

The FSM also has directions to troubleshoot the airflow meter.

I would suggest looking in the FSM (sense a theme here?) at the fuel diagnostic flowcharts. It should guide you to the problem fairly quickly.
