Does anyone else's exhaust donuts fall off?

I'm wondering if I'm the only one. I've had a Racing Beat exhaust on my car for several years now and I've had to replace the donuts multiple times because they fall off. They seem pretty tight when I mount them. I usually have to jack up the mufflers to get enough clearance to slip them over the hooks. I'll notice one side will be sitting lower than the other. Get under the car and find that they have fallen off again!

Anyone got a trick to securing them? I tried baler wire on top of the rubber, but it gets brittle after a couple months. Maybe I need to squeeze the hooks closer together so it's a tighter fit?

I've used an worm gear clamp (such as one used for hoses and couplers) around one of those rubber exhaust mounts in the past to make it "tighter". It might resolve your issue.?

i've run into that here and there. you might try and loosen the mufflers/ypipe and rehang em. bending the hooks is valid too.

yes mine fall off. my exhaust is actually sitting on the ground outside as we speak.

I tried hose clamps, zipties, and replacing hangers. but something always seems to happen to them?

Sounds like an ex-wife or gf problem.

Seriously, very odd, but if the hanger has a burr on it at the right spot, this could happen, just like a bad pulley on a belt.

Lol, I've done similar too, but then you also get some vibration passing over to the unibody.

This car had chain links as donuts when I got it. Talk about vibration. It had no play at all. At least it was secured to the car though. I might try something like this...

Seems like it would be less likely to slip off.

I helped a friend set up his car with 275/40-17s in the back. We had a problem with the mufflers swinging in the donuts and pushing the heat shields against the tires in hard turns, so we simply mounted the mufflers with turnbuckles. It probably increased noise a bit, but he already had poly/delrin bushings, coilovers, open wastegate dump pipe etc.

This, works unless the donut is not falling off but is instead breaking.

Also, I have used a 3-4" worm gear clamp instead of the donut. That'll stay put. Slip some small hose over the clamp and it will be rubber isolated to reduce vibrations.

Have you tried using new donuts? They'll hold it snugger and have less play/ability to flop around.

Falling donuts has indeed been a problem. Last time around I used hangers like pictured above, and no issues as they simply mount tighter to the hook.
