Do you know what this is??

I am unsure of what it is. Haynes calls it a bypass air solenoid. Do I need it? Can it be removed? If so, What all is needed to do so? This is an 87 TII.
Thanks
Nolan

It's for Accellerated Warmup. If you wanna get rid of it, plug both hoses that go to-from it, and get rid of it. No more 2k warmup... hope you like keeping your car running until it's warm.

So, it would be removed if I we're to install block off plates? Do I need to run a jumper wire in the connector? Or, can I just unplug it, remove it, and plug the nipple on the intercooler and the intake.

unplug, remove, plug the nipple and your set. it might throw a code, but it will not go into limp mode

I just got it back running today and it is running like crap. I have been tacking down an electrical problem for 3 weeks now and she smoked for a good 30 or 45 minutes, but smoke is clearing. Still running like hell though. I regrounded per rotaryresurrection.com and she fired and runs but not well at all? Any suggestions?

That solenoid has nothing to do with keeping the engine running when it's cold. You might want to keep that sarcasm in check until you get your facts straight...

As per above, remove it, cap the connections and you're good to go. Apart from the lack of annoying 3000rpm idle when you start you'll never miss it.

oh; mybad I forget whom I'm dealing with sometimes in this forum. The AWS solinoid's SOLE AND ONLY PURPOSE is to warm up the catalytic convertors then the car is started out of gear... the 3k warmup at idle associated w/ this solinoid does NOT contribute to the car running in any way...

...now in my experiance with the AWS soinoid, once I removed it (along w/ doing a few other things at the time) I had to pump the throttle a bit from a cold-start while the car was warming up, not long; but more than *turn a key* 3k maintained idle for 30 seconds, and by then it'll hold a solid idle on it's own...

...that's first-hand experiance, not sarcasim; and btw, I still didn't miss it...

The engine does not need the extra airflow from the AWS system to idle properly. Plenty of others who've removed it will attest to that. My car never even had AWS and it idles fine when cold. No throttle pumping required.
