Angry DO NOT BUY parts from _MAZMART_ in ATL, GA

Dear Fellow Car Enthusiasts,

I write this e-mail to warn you of :
MAZMART
4917 New Peachtree Road
Atlanta, GA 30341-3122
1-800-221-5156

Please read my short synopsis of what happen to me this afternoon. I appreciate your attention and looking for a resolution on what to do.

Here goes...
It all started out as being a routine trip to the local junk yard. I went down there to pick up a set of lugnuts for my friend Jeff (pyromaster) in Decatur. Also, I wanted to pick up a spare set of rims.

I entered the shop and I met a friendly lady at the counter. I told her that I have bought a set of rims before from them and would like to wait for the owner whom I have purchased the rims previously. After a few minutes later, Harry (the owner w/ long pony tail in his 40-50's) showed up and greeted me. Our conversation went like this from here on...

Harry: What can I do for you?
Me: I'm looking for a spare Mazda Millenia rims. I bought a set from you a while ago. I just need it for a share.
Harry: I remember you, you were here about 6 months ago. You bought rims and tires, right?
Me: Right. About 5 or 4 months ago.
Harry: Is that a 9-spoke one?
Me: Yea, 9-spoke. Do you have one for cheap?
Harry: Cheap? (laughs) Let me check the back. Wait here (in the front).

I waited for about 5 minutes... just checking out the engines, etc. in the shop. Harry comes back with a wheel.

Harry: You said you were gonna use it for spare, right? This one has a small nick, but that'll be ok for a spare use.
Me: Is it bent?
Harry: No.
Me: How much is it?
Harry: Since you bought a set from me before, I'll give it to you for $60.

<now this is the messed up part... to put it mildly>

Me: Can you go any lower on that price? (with a smile... no joke.)
Harry: You want it lower? <cringes> I can't believe you asked that.
Me: If you can't go any lower that's fine with me, but is it possible?
Harry: I'm so pissed off right now I don't want to sell anything to you anymore.
Me: That's fine if you can't go any lower (in price).

<an employee of MAZMART works in>

Harry: I can't believe these people asking for lower prices on everything.
Employee: What's up?
Harry: He bought a set of rims from me, so I said $60 for the spare... but he wants it cheaper. I'm so F***ing pissed off.
Me: I said that's alright if you can't go any lower (I won't buy it.)

<this is what really ticked me off>

Harry: If I go to a Chinese restaurant, do I ask for a cheaper price?
Me: (thinking... they don't sell used parts... besides, I'm far from Chinese.)
Harry: We should close all F***ing borders so these foreigners can't come in (to the country).
Me: I'm not a foreigner. I'm a citizen like you.
Harry: I don't give a F***. Get the F*** outta here.
Me. {I'm pissed off now, but was behaving and watching my word choices.) You're just much as a foreigner as I am. Your parents/ancestors came from another country.
Harry: I don't give a S***.
Me: (walking out) It's nice doing business with you... see how many people I refer to your shop now.
Harry: F*** you.

So, when I was just being a thrifty used parts buyer, this illogical, racist owner decided to verbally attack me because I was of a different color. WTF? I know that every race is racist to a certain extent, but lashing out at me, personally, because he was haveing a bad day seems a little out of liine to say the least.

And, for all your skeptics, I have friends that are white, black, Italian, Indian, Jew, Asian, etc. I'm sure some of my friends and people from ATL-SoloII on this news-group can vouch for me.

Anyway, what should I do? Anything.? It just pisses me off and I'm having a really bad day. Also, if you can help it, please _DO NOT BUY_ from MAZMART in Atlanta, GA. We don't need to support such a close minded shops with zero respect for its customers. The dumbest thing is that he owns an IMPORT used parts store... maybe he should close the US border so he can go out of business (by not getting anymore Mazda parts).

Cliff-notes:
MAZMART - Illogical, racist shop with lack of respect for their customers and over-priced. (I can only say this for Harry, the owner, however.)

Thank you for your attention.

Sincerely,

Sean

LOL, good point, he owns a foreign auto parts shop but bitches about foreigners.

Sorry you had such a bad dealing with him. He may have just had a really bad day but that is no excuse for lashing out at you like that. I have bought from them before and have gotten a good deal on parts. (ie. 89 taillights for 175 i think for the set). But I think after that type of disrespect to a customer I will stick them down further on my list of places to check for parts.

Report it to local authorities that he kicked you out of the store while making racist comments toward you. Or file a report with the better business burea that he refused to sell to you on that basis.

Sean,
They already have a very bad reputation around here. Almost everyone I know won't buy from them. They can't stay in buisness too long with their atitudes.
As far as what you can do. You should go to every Mazda forum on the internet and post this message. Also post it to all of the RX-7 mailing list that you can find. I would also do what Flobb said and report them to the BBB.

Sorry to hear about the way they treated you. I can assure you that I will never buy from them.

The FB mailing list is list@sa22c.org
The south east rx-7 mailing list is se-rx7@yahoogroups.com
The Miata forum is http://www.miataforum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

Those are the only ones I know off the top of my head but there are many more.

Why don't you follow-up with MazMart before you get slammed for slander.&nbsp The owner might've had a very good excuse to be mad (no excuse for the racial slurs).&nbsp We all blow up due to circumstances out of our control - you might want to reassess[sp?] the whole story before coming to conclusions.

I'm not condoning the racial slander (I'm Asian myself), but we are all human, and we all make mistakes...

Personally, $60 for a rim (and tire?) is pretty damn cheap as long as it works, especially so for an "alloy" one.&nbsp I think you went too far asking them to go lower than $60...

A simple no would have sufficed though.... I think thats his point. There was no need to lash out. Also any GOOD businessman knows you do not insult your customer even if they are not of your liking.

I am in the retail business and I usually always get this, can I get this cheaper or you are charging $25 for putting those speakers in,, It really pisses me off, but I guarantee you I WOULD NEVER insult someone because they were black, green, purple, white, blue, dont care... Theres no EXCUSE for it, he should have just said no. Thats my best deal and been done with it. Personally I have learned that in the retail business to just quote a price a few dollars higher and when they walk you down a little, you got what you wanted in the first place. Im sorry but this guy has the wrong way to do buisness Personally I have talked to him on the phone, and he seemed to be a little closed minded anyways...

Harry is not the owner. Rick Engman is. Mr. Engman is great, but I have never had a good experience with his helpers. That's why I refuse to give them any business.

Well, I am sorry to hear about your experience with them. They have always seemed to be a pain in the ***, but this is the first I have ever hear of it being this bad. When I go there, I only will deal with Paul, the Jamican guy. He is the only one there that won't give you crap about Rx7's and such. Harry will go off and let you know what he thinks, unfortunatly. I am not trying to defend anyone here. I have actually gotten some great deals from them and they seem to have the parts I need when no one else does. BTW-According to a guy I work with, even though they don't say they do, they have a nice stash of Rx7 parts.

As for the price, remember, these people make a living off this junk. They really can't get the same amount of money for a set of 3 rims as the would for a set of 4. So selling one rim and possibly breaking up a set of 4 could hurt them in the long run. And to be honest, 60 bucks for a Millenia rim is not that bad.

Again, I am not trying to defend either side here. But think about what you are asking them to do, break a set of 4 rims, and loose money in the long run. I am surprised they even brought one up.

Again, I am not trying to start a flame war, defend Mazmart, or defend you.

Carl

(PS, this could be considered slander and could be ground for a lawsuit, unless everything stated by yourself is 100% factual, and can provide witnesses to back this. Please think about how things are stated when posting to a public forum such as this. Jim Ellis of Chamblee just settled a lawsuit with a similar situation.)

Actually in my experience they're almost always wrong but you never let them know that.

Perhaps someone should tell the owner that if his staff carry on this way he'll be out of business before you can say "don't **** off those RX-7 forum guys"!

I understand that people can make errors, but as a customer I don't expect to be treated like a dirt. Should I be expected to be treated as such in every store I go into? No. There is a way to treat customers and he went to far. I surely didn't feel good after the incident... to put it midly.

Well, I can guarantee you that I won't buy a thing from them after hearing that. I'd report it if I were you, too. I'm not Asian, but am all for unity and anti-racism. I would have told "Harry" to shove that ******* rim up his ***. Hey Ted. I wouldn't even pay $60 for a used alloy rim "with a nick" on it. Besides, as previously stated, a simple "no" would have worked, and regardless there is NO excuse for his behavior. I'd say he owes you an apology at LEAST. I've seriously almost bought parts from them online before. I won't even consider it now. Thanks for the warning.

Ted,
This particular store has a reputation for treating it's cosomers porly. Especially RX-7 owners. Call them and ask them to buy a rotary engine and see what they say. A guy I know had to talk them into selling him one. They basically told him that he was an idiot for wanting to buy it.
If Harry didn't want to sell the rim for less, then he could have said, sorry, thats the price. Take it or leave it. I bet Sean would have bought it.
