Do Mazda 929 axles work to replace S4 TII axles.

I have seen some forums saying that Mazda 929 axles in replace of S4 TII axles.
Does anyone know if this actually works?

Short answer, Yes. Search my thread I created. I’m using autozone 929 axles on my t2 which has a s4 t2 diff.

long answer: I think early model s4 t2 stub shafts or axles had 2 different lengths. I encountered this while switching my other s4 t2 diff to a s5 t2. I think the length difference was approximately 5mm-10mm. If you search for maverick motorsports fc3s axle spacers, they mention you may need the axle spacers if running 929 axles because 929 axles are supposedly shorter. Years ago while using the early s4 t2 axles with s5 t2 diff, I did have to run 1 axle spacer. Also note my car is pretty low so the difference in length was greater due to the angle change.

I was tired of having to replace the inner boots every couple of years so I gave the 929 axles a shot and they’re working perfectly.

I’d say run the 929 axles and I bet you won’t have problems. If you do, now you know why. $260 a pair from autozone, lifetime warranty, why not.

Stussy, I forgot to tell you some information on using those axle spacers.

they will not work with the stubshaft’s studs. The 4 original studs are too short. Im using arp bolts (the black super strong ones) instead, with washer, lock washer and hex nut, and apply threadlocker.

i have to go into my emails to find the exact same ones I used.

well only took 10 seconds to find them in my email.

So would these be an option for those that need just the stubs for the Ford chunk swap?

Did you just use regular nuts, or did you go ARP as well? These are crazy expensive, but I guess their necessary.

Found some on McMasterCarr, 170000 psi vs the ARP 180000 psi, good enough for me, only difference is 50mm.

i don’t think I went with arp nuts, probably high grade nuts from an industrial hardware store.

Believe me, I tried using cheap oreilly auto hardware and snapped all of them drifting.

Most ideal thing would be to use ARP studs instead of bolts, I just never measured the knurl.
