Do I really need a rebuild?

OK, I just bought an 89 GTUs. The owner told me his son bought it, drove it home and it died. He thinks it blew an apex seal.

Well, he said that it runs, but he "can't keep water in it." First, it blew a rad hose. Then, they thought there was some other leak. Then, they put on a new water pump.

Is that really an apex seal, or is that a coolant seal or what? Any ideas?

Do a compression test, then you'll know if it blew an apex seal.

If it has trouble with coolant and seems to be losing/burning it, do the coolant seal test.

Blown apex seal, blown coolant seal, whatever, both require a rebuild.

Coolant seal test = Coolant pressure tester that you can rent at most autoparts stores
