Do I really need a dial indicator?
I'm about to rebuild my engine, (first time doing it) and I wanted to know if I really need to buy the dial indicator to check the wear on the housing. And if so, does anyone no where I can get a good cheap one?

You can check the wear on the irons with a straight edge and a set of feeler gauges. For stepped wear, if you can catch your fingernail, it's too much.
Housings are checked for flatness with a straight edge and feeler gauge. It is a LOT more difficult to actually measure the eccentric wear of the chrome surface but a simple visual inspection will give you the condition of the chrome.
