Hey guys, I have my engine being rebuilt, and my clutch was slipping, so I bought the 6 puck from Mazdatrix. My flywheel was very smooth, but there are some markings on the pressure plate. Should I get this stuff resurfaced? Or should I replace them? I really don't want to spend too much money, but if it will save me money and time in the future, I'm all for it. Thanks!

This is for an 88 TII btw.

 

With the flywheel, if its smooth, leave it be. Doesn't a new pressure plate come with the clutch? mine did. If not, i'd say order a new one, and make it heavy duty.

I'd recomment you have the flywheel resurfaced. I thought the same if it was smooth. But, I kept having clutch chatter until I finally caved and got it resurfaced.

Resurfacing is cheap, maybe $30 at your local machine shop. Avoiding the work to take things apart to get to it later is well worth the $30.

 

If you go through the trouble with pulling the trans, then you should do everything:

clutch (good time for upgrade)
pressure plate
release/throwout bearing
pilot bearing and seal
front/rear trans seals and front cover if worn
trans mounts should be inspected and replaced if broken
flywheel--resurface or replace(inspect for cracks)
slave/master cylinder, clutch line, and good bleed
adjust pedal height and freeplay
Redline MT-90 to preserve life of the new tranny
inspect shifter bushings/seals/boots and replace as needed

And shortcuts taken will lead to future problems. Spend a little more now, or a lot later.
