Do I have a major oil problem??
Well, I just had my oil changed the first week in July. I assume the guys did it right, and I have to admit I haven't been checking my oil level which I now realize what a stupid mistake i was making.
About 2 weeks ago I noticed when I take sharp right turns a buzzer sound was going off. But this happened only like 5 times in the past 2 weeks. I thought maybe something was up with the horn. But today I realized the oil low light was goin on along with the sound.
So I checked the oil, and the dipstick wasnt even near the low, it was near the very bottom of the dipstick, so i went out and bought a quart of castrol 20w50. Its at the halfway point now.
My question is if I just got the oil changed 2 months ago, should the oil be that low? Do I have a major problem here? No smoke comes from the exhaust and I havent noticed any oil puddles or anything after ive parked. I remember the mechanic saying I had a couple small leaks but they werent serious at the time. (this was in march) SO... do I have a big leak, or should I not worry about it. Or have it looked at?

Well dude, 2nd gens naturally inject about a court of oil between oil changes(3,000mls). Don't know how many miles you put on your car on average, but if your mech said you had a FEW leaks and that was 2 months ago, then I would say between the leaks and naturally using it, sounds about right. FIX THOSE LEAKS!!!...please....can't stand to see a rotary die before it's time.
By the way your oil light is designed to come on that soon..rotarys use oil, the engineers knew that. Hope this helps

I had something like that happen; I was running an autocross with another member, ZachSpazz.
We both had oil buzzers sound at the same place on the track, and the oil level in both our cars was fine. Mines N/A and hes got a TII so, it's probably just a design thing across the board, like T2project says.
Change your own oil, you save money.
And check it at the gas station regularly.

I definatelt agree with Suparslinc and t2project. The rotaries inject oil into the combustion housings since they don't have piston rings and things of that nature. Oil consumption is normal, and unfortunately one of the rotary's downfall in the general publics eye. Personally, I think it is a great idea the way they made it
Change your own oil. I even did a write-up on my site for those that have not ever done it before and don't want to be embarrased(not that you have never changed oil b4, just saying...) It is pretty complete from start to finish. Then like the others said, check it when you get gas. This should be done in any car though IMHO. Also one other thing, the harder you drive, the more oil it burns to compensate for the hgiher rpm's. So if it usually burns off a quart on an oil change and you drove it conservatively, then the next change you eat up 2 quarts driving curvy raods, then you know why
