I have a spare tranny for my t2 but I think its an N/A tranny. Is there any way to tell the Difference?

TII tranny's have removeable bell housings. and different splines. if u have an old TII clutch laying around try it.

 

If I do have an N/A, How long do you think it would last in a turbo 2 with at least 250 horsepower.

 

forever... if you drive like a grandma and mega feather the clutch. But after a few goods clutch drops, and quick mega power shifts (no feathering) I'd imagine it would be toast. What really kills it is the torque, not the horsepower.

 

All turbo FC transmission have a 1" input shaft.
The NA ones are 7/8".
Probably the easiest to measure and confirm.

But as NOPR has mentioned, it depends how controlled your are with your right foot.

What do you mean by ribbed, the housing?

The turbo tranny has the BIG drain plug underneath - I think the NA's are not like this.

Oh, and that ribbed case tranny is a partial myth.
I've seen J-spec imports with SMOOTH case trannies, but were turbo transmission - duh, J-spec.
I think all of the US-spec turbo transmission are ribbed, but this is inconsistent worldwide.

"Ribbed" for her pleasure...LOL...J/K. Yeah T2 trans have ''ribs" and an inspection plate.

 

Mine doesnt have ribs, but it has a one inch input shaft. Is the inspection plate up on the top of the bell housing? Could someone post a picture of an N/A and a turbo tranny please.

There's a pretty good sized inspection plate on the *bottom* of the trans...
