Do all S5's have paint problems?

just curious, since i have the only S5 in the country i have none to compare..

but my S4 doesn't have this problem.. the paint is great

my FD has the classic rust under the wing, that i'm aware of..

but my S5 is weird..

the paint has been "falling off" there's no other way to explain it

it's like it decided to just stop "bonding" to the metal...

it's like Car dandruff... the paint comes off in "chunks" and the grey steel is left ...

i once hit the car with a pressure washer... and it looked like i hit the car with a sand blaster

my car is white.. if that makes a diff...

is this a common problem?

I've heard that the white on the s5's are known for flaking. Same problem here btw white '89 gtu and the paint will flake off if I spray it with a garden hose

Many cars from the late 80's/early 90's had major paint problems as manufacturers struggled to convert from solvent to water based paints.
Dodge minivans with blue paint are probably the most commonly seen examples but everyone had trouble.

What other option do you have?

all of the paint places just shoot the primer on top of the old paint and then re-paint it..

but then it'll probably flake again

Certainly Earl Schieb and Maaco would do it that way but a real paint shop wouldn't.
Of course, that's why there is about a ten times difference in price.

Look around for a quality painter and see how much (if any) of the pre-prep they'll let you do- might save some bucks by stripping off exterior parts and maybe even the rough sanding yourself- but watch out, many painters won't touch a car if they can't control the entire process.
