Ditch HKS intake?

Hey,

I've been running an HKS intake for about 2 months now and have recently learned of its incredible inability to filter air properly.

I'm wondering if you guys think its worthwhile to switch over to a K&N cone intake??

Also, a few questions about the K&N for those who are currenlty using them:

1) How does the airpump hose attach to the filter? On the HKS there is a little **** specially placed for the airpump...is there something like that on the K&N?

2) Are you running the K&N cone filter made specifically for our cars, or did you just buy a standard cone and hook it up to the AFM?

3) The AFM adapter that comes with the HKS...will I need that if I go to K&N?

Thanks gentlemen...(and ladies),

ive heard good and bad things about the HKS filter.. every filter is basically the same.. so if you are concerned just go get a K&N... there should be no spot to put a air pump on the filter inself.. dont even really worry about it, it only sends air to the exhaust.. time to get new exhaust!!

Yeah, ouch... I run a mega flow, but it's time for an insert change and I'm thinking of replacing the whole system... Anyone have experience with the other HKS filter? http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=1446&rsku=0 or just thoughts and opinions about it?

Ya go with an K&N or an APEX.

http://www.gtrowner.com/induction.html

Look at that site. Oh and just get a breather for the air pump. Only costs like $5 at discount auto parts.

Whats a breather? Just a little filter for the air pump hose? And my six ports are air pump activated so that air is going into my engine...no cats though.

So just get a K&N cone and put it on the adapter? Sweet shouldn't be that expensive....

A breather is just like a mini intake filter. I bought one like I said for around $5 and a little hose clamp and it works fine.

You could buy 10 no-name cone filters for the price of that one, and I bet they flow and filter just about as well.

NOT TRUE! On deceleration you will dump unfiltered air into your rear rotor if you just leave the airpump hanging.

It is questionable how accurate the original source of data is, as HKS are proven to sell more induction kits than any one of the others featured in the test, and yet there induction kit rates as the worst kit in the test. This suggests that either HKS rely upon their brand name to sell their 'poorly' manufactured air filters, or that the original Japanese test was nothing more than a PR stunt to promote the lesser known equipment

Well I don't think that any of the other brands are lesser known. Especially K&N.

HKS uses a foam element, right? A foam element packed with a lot of oil will filter the air better than a paper element filter in really dusty conditions. Other than that a paper element is more desireable. It just outflows a foam element. I'll stick with a K&N.

I heard the HKS is horrible.. filters like crap, and can break up over time and clog things up that you don't want clogged.

for all you HKS fans, there are a couple of filters on ebay that look exactly like the HKS ones with the same foam, adapter and all for $30 brand new!
