discoloration on side+ int. housings

hi

i am starting my first rebuild and i noticed that my better set of housings have got darker places on them. there are like dark areas on the bottom 3rd or so of the plate. all the discoloration is outside the side seal marks. are these usable or should i use my other set that has slightly deeper wear marks?

thanks,
-Pat

oh yeah the engine was blown. probably a failed thermal pellet. rotor bearings were eaten away and the coolant seal ring had a hole blown out of it.

If you can take a picture and post it, of the discoloration that might help.

There are some good examples at http://www.mazdatrix.com of bad housings. Check the FAQ section and compare your housings with the pictures. Large dark and discoloured spots are bad things.
