Dimmer switch wire?

Hello, what wire for the dimmer control on Aftermarket Audio Decks do we connect it to? Also which wire would allow the guage lights to dim when I dim the dash lights. I think that it would be the same one, But I tap into the one that says dim on the FSM wiring diagram but the deck just turns off when the headlights come on.
Thanks.
Jeffrey

You probably used the parking light wire as ground.

The parking lights wire at the back of the radio is Red/Black.

If you want a dimmable wire, you want Red/Green found at the light switch, or gauges, or logicon

so which one would I use for the Deck?
is it red/green, with dashes or red with greed stripe, or vis versa?
Just want to make sure I get it right this time.
Thanks

I hooked one of my gauges up to the dimmer wire. when head lights turn on it dims. good.

but when I dim the dash. the gauge gets brighter, and when I brighten the dash. the gauge gets dimmer LOL

it's like the voltage ranges are reversed. either the car or gauge is odd

For a dimmer wire, you would use a Red wire with Green stripe.

Dashes only represent what harness, for example brown dashes mean it part of the front harness, while silver dashes mean it is part of the engine harness.

But you need to make sure your radio ground is not on the Red/Black at the radio. You will damage the dimmer and light switch if it is and you do not correct it.

You would want a non-dimming parking light wire (red/black) for that then.
