difficulty adding coolant

I was adding coolant today on my s4 t2 and teh water kept getting stuck in the upper radiator hose and my closed thermostat. Anyone else have this problem, or got a better way to add coolant faster?

No, it's on the radiator, passenger side, on the corner where the upper hose connects to the radiator.

Lisle funnel. Search forums for info.

Though I thought you could just add coolant when everything's cold.
