Differential Difference Questions...

So my differential gears are shot. I know of a few ones around here locally, buit I'm not sure which ones will work. At the moment I've got a 87 n/a. It's non LSD, just an open diff. And while searching I found that neither the Turbo or automatic ones would work in my differential housing. So, which all would work?

There's an S5 vert (manual) with one near me, and I'm hoping that'd work so it'll be easy on me...

So, help me out guys! Thanks ahead of time

The turbo uses an 8" ring gear, while the n/a has a 7". N/a automatics came with a 3.9, the standard was 4.10, and the GTUs had a 4.3 ring and pinion.

If your ring and pinion are shot, you can swap any 7" ring and pinion in. Whoever said the automatic R&P doesn't fit has no idea what their talking about. The easiest thing would be to swap the whole differential with another from a n/a.

The 3.9 will lower cruising revs by about 200 rpms @ 60mph and slightly increase fuel economy, while the 4.10 and 4.3 will slightly improve acceleration.

I have a 3.9 ring and pinion for sale, if you're interested PM me.

What about swaps in-between series? Like would an S5 n/a diff work with along with my S4 drivetrain? And when you say ring and pinion, do you mean the 'chunk' of gears in the rear end?

Thanks

And where's the sticks?

Check the differential interchange guide at Mazdatrix. All S4 & S5 n/a differentials are interchangable if you use the entire third member assembly.

When you mention the 3rd member assembly, that would be the whole unit correct?
