different years = different size fenders??

I have a 86 na base, and its about as early fc as you can get, it has a factory sticker on the back that says something like mazda 1985 so its pretty old. But i was wondering if i got fenders off any other year fc if they would be different size? im asking this because after my car crash my passenger side fender was totalled so i bought a fender off of a 88 convertable and now the passenger side fender has wayy less wheel gap than the right, or is this just because my frame is tweaked a little bit? maybe im just imagining things but i feel like ive looked at s5's and later years and there fenders are a little different than mine but i dont know

I'm going to guess that something's been tweaked due to the accident. I have S5 fenders on an S4 and the only difference that I have found is that the gauge of the steel is lighter on the S5 fenders, and the openings for the S5 molding clips. I am quite certain that otherwise, they are dimensionally the same.

There isn't really a HUGE difference beside how Jal301 said before. Normally the differences between the cars are mechanical (I.E the MOP on the 86 is different than that of a 91). And of course the tail lights But fenders...Really shouldn't have a problem with those. if you want to be sure that they still fit your car, stay within the range of 86-88 ( I think that is the correct gap).

Good question. I was wondering this a while back too. I was trying to mount my set of OEM s5 sideskirts on s4 fenders and they just don't seem to line up at all. Other people say they line up just fine but I tried them on my car and my cousins car. Both s4 turbo FC's and both don't fit.
