Different brake issues

I have acouple brake issues on my 86.

1st Handbrake wasn't pulling hard enough so I over adjusted and the first cable snaped and still wasn't holding the brakes even while sitting still befor the snap. So i was trying to replace it and does anyone know a really good rust solvent the get the second cables off the first old one??

also the rear brakes do work, there is proof of that.

So if it adjusment wasn't the problem what could it be?

2nd The front right brake is dragging most of the time. When it is it keeps the car from being pushed by several people and it also keeps it from going backwards on hills.
It doesn't make any sounds or it doen't heat up alot compared to the other wheels.

Please help with any ideas of what could cause these problems.

For the hand brake, check the springs on the caliper. They might be stuck. I have similar problem, hand brake all the way up and barely hold the car still.

Well i dunno if it works cuz i'm busy w/ my front accident repair. If i get to the brakes soon, u'll let u know how it turns out. Good luck

No air in the brake hydro system wont cause a lock up problem. I suggest removing the caliper to inspect the brake pads and the caliper slider pins. If you are going to rebuild your front caliper for any reason i suggest rebuilding both calipers at the same time.

I would guess that your calipers have siezed causing the poor parking brake operation and the dragging front brakes. Time to go out and get 4 rebuilt calipers and install them (or rebuild yours if they're not too ugly). If the second cable is rusted the the first, then it might be on its way out too, time to replace it. If the brakes have been dragging with you driving like that, then you'll need to replace the pads and replace that rotor on that corner, or at least have it turned, as overheating the pads can ruin them and the rotor by glazing them, besides, they'll at least be a lot more worn than on the other side.

While this might sound excessive and will be costly, don't screw around with brakes, they're just about the most important system on the car, be sure to do it right and have them working at 100%.
