difference in s4 and s5 coil wiring?
difference in s4 and s5 coil wiring?
I have kinda doubted where I got my tach reading from and found this post
it was an answer froma question regarding 1991 year coil, im wondering would the s4 be the same?
On Leading coil the RED wire comes from ECU Leading Igt, chassis is ground, the TAN wire is 12v switched power
On the Trailing coil the RED wire comes from ECU Trailing Igt, the TAN wire is also 12v switched power. Ground is also to chassis ground. The WHITE wire Is the Trailing coil select from ECU, The BLACK wire goes to Tach and the YELLOW is IGF and not used.

What specifically are you looking for? There are wires that are part of a very small pigtail coming out of the coils themselves and then there are wires that are part of the front harness that connects to these wires. Are you bypassing the front harness?
diagram I used
I have an early S4 and the colors are as follows that I could discern. There are three wires coming out of the leading coil itself and they are Red, Black and Tan. Red goes to Green/Yellow which is the timing signal while the Tan goes to Black/Yellow which is switched 12 volt and the Black is for diagnostic purposes to connect to a tach.
There are six wires related to the trailing coil but there lies the confusion. There are two White wires basically by themselves coming from the trailing coil and they are both connected to the Black/Yellow switched 12 voltage wires. The other group of wires has four wires in total. The Red wire connects to the Blue/Yellow wire which is the timing signal for trailing (IGT-T), the Black wire from the coil connects to the Blue/Red wire that is the IGf-T. But on my car there are two Yellow wires coming from the coil and one connects to the Brown/Yellow wire which represents the select signal (IGs-T) while the other Yellow wire from the coil connects to the Yellow/Blue wire which connects to the check connector for diagnostic purposes as well as connecting to the tach. Not sure how to differentiate which Yellow represents IGs-T.
