Exclamation The difference a borla xr-1 midpipe will make (videos)

I've talked about my exhaust a bunch of times but no one on here has really heard how loud it truly was. If you knew you'd know why I finally put on a borla xr-1 muffler in place of my test pipe

Old setup:
Ported exhaust with removed diffuser
RB header
2.5" test pipe
2.5" y-pipe and 2.5" piping
Dual BOMZ GT Style ebay mufflers

Now the ebay mufflers pretty much got blown out from what I can tell, doesn't seem like they were doing much muffling haha.

A lot of people have also asked me for a sound or video clip of my exhaust but I haven't been able to get it. Well, here you go. This is what it sounded like before the borla xr-1 with the "old" setup. Right click/save as

http://home.comcast.net/~rx7pics/before.MPG

Shitty quality video I know, sound is OK but not that great. Camera (digital camera) was about 20 feet away from the car and according to my friend who was doing the taping from back there the video didn't do the exhaust its injustice for how loud it truly is Gives you an idea at least

And now my setup is the same as above except with a borla xr-1 in place of the test pipe.

http://home.comcast.net/~drewrx7/after.MPG

It quieted it down noticeably, as you can tell in the video, and I'm happy. It's most noticeably quieter inside the car, and I can finally hear again! Especially my music

Anyways, what do you guys think?

Thanks! I think the muffler actually helped even it out a bunch and I like how it sounds more now.

I also enjoy the little brap brap at idle, makes me feel like I have a bridgeport sometimes

WOW, that was SOO loud. They both sounded crazy and after hearing the 1st one the 2nd one literally sounds 'muffled'. Either way, both are impressive.

Thanks

Oh yah I completely forgot to mention in case anyone cares. The sequence for both videos was idle (~800-850), then holding it at ~3k, then revving it between 6k and ~7500

Yah I like the sound of it a lot now. The borla xr-1 mufflers are nice, good contstruction and not very heavy either They're also SS so they wont blow out, like I did to my old magnaflow 6" round (blew all the inards of that out after a couple months).

Haha, yes another testimony from a friend, he knows all too well how loud it was. You could hear my car for like 5 min before I got to peoples house.

And yes, NA powah! Come spring when the new season starts and the local drag strip reopens I'll be shooting for low 14's.

It should!!

Since I ended up selling the SS Autochrome DP, and using my RB 3 inch DP, I then fitted the Borla muffler as a MP. So basically my setup consist of:
-RB 3 inch DP
-Borla3 inch XR-1 MP
-SS Autochrome catback (I ended up cutting the 2.75 flange, and weleded a RB 3 inch flange instead)

Thanks everyone, I love how it sounds with the borla now.

bingoboy: You can fit a borla in with whatever setup you want! It comes in varying lengths without flanges, so when you go to get the flanges welded on you can add pipe if you need to, or take off a couple inches like I did to fit the gap you have.

RXciting: My porting consists of removed diffusers, slightly larger than streetported exhaust but not by much, mild streetport primary, and slightly larger than normal streetport secondary/auxilary ports with removed divider (one large port).

neat, and you can order up flanges from racing beat that will fit their headers/downpipes for a minimal of headaches and take it down to your exhaust shop locallay and get it welded up. for you NA guys who might consider this RB says the presilencers is 20" long. xr1 closest looks to be 16". flanges from RB are 10 bucks each, metal gaskets from them are like 7 bucks. throw in 150 bucks for the muffler, and voila.

this is something i've been thinkin about doing for a long time, i knew FD guys who had done it but not many FC guys. oh dDub did you order your muffler from borla themselves, or you find a place with a nice cheap price?
