Difference between Turbo and NA rebuild kit

Okay I have this rebuild kit, I always thought it was a Turbo rebuild kit, but after sorting through the rest of the parts, some of it is NA parts.

How can I tell the difference between the two kits? is there something the other doesnt have?

the LIM gasket has 2 coolant passages in the gasket, an N/A doesn't have those 2 extra holes. also a turbo has 4 ports on the gasket, an N/A has 6 unless it is a 1st gen 4 port N/A gasket set but still will not have the 2 coolant holes.

E is an N/A kit intake manifold gasket, G is a Turbo intake manifold gasket. i don't know how else i could dtermine your gasket set without coming to your house and checking the part #...

notice the 2 extra holes near the middle on the turbo gasket?

sorry, forgot the rebuild kits do not have a LIM gasket, they should have the exhaust gaskets though, an N/A should only have a manifold gasket and a downpipe gasket. the turbo kit would have a manifold gasket, manifold to turbo gasket, WG gasket and WG to downpipe gasket, all exhaust gaskets are steel so the turbo kit should have a few extra than an N/A kit.

Wait up, you're saying you can use a TII rebiuld kit on an N/A, as long as everything you replace is internal? I had thought this, but never had confermation. Sweet.

i never said that but i don't know that it isn't true, there may be some differences but i really couldn't tell you for sure if an N/A kit would work for a turbo. there is some other minor differences but for the most part i would suggest using the right kit.

To my knowledge, a NA & turbo engine are identical internally, except for the port openings in the irons. The difference between the turbo & NA engines is in the rotors (different compression) and counterweights, but they're just reused.

All the seal points are the same - the apex seals, side seals, corner seals, and coolant/combustion seals. I see no reason why there would be any difference between the kits, except for the external seals (LIM/engine, etc).

More to the point, RotaryAviation doesn't specify turbo/nonturbo on their rebuild kits. Only series. Their primary rebuild kits are engine internals only, and they sell the car seals separately. So, given that they don't differentiate between turbo & nonturbo engine internals, I don't think you'll have any problems.
