Diff Clunks

I was wondering if I could get some help on this, something went wrong in my rear diff, my friend was driving my car and he shifted from 2nd to 3rd and bam! No power to the wheels and rear diff just clunks now.
I towed the car to my job and it clanked the whole way, any idea what could be wrong inside of there? I have a t2 4.10 rear diff that was welded. Would it be cheaper to rebuild or replace? Im running about 330rwhp also out of a ls1. Thanks

Thats what I was thinking, time to locate a new diff, but thanks also. Its weird that the NA rear diff that was in the car lasted for years and ran 11 sec 1/4 mile times and this diff has never seen the track and was recently put in but went boom.

The one that was in there had LSD, but it was welded also. Couldn't turn without the rear wheels spinning. Ill try to find another one though, I really appreciate your help.

Usually weld jobs on rear ends don't hold up very long

yah turning a diff into a lincolin locker normally only makes sense when starting with an open diff. the whole point of an LSD is that you shouldnt need to weld it.

and if you heard a bang, make sure your didnt just snap a u-joint or break a driveshaft. im sure you already looked. but its a possibility.

Yea man the car was crazy trying to do low speed cornering, and i put it on a lift and checked everything. When i turn the wheels the diff clunks, and it barely spins on its own power when in the air. The noise kills me a little inside lol

The spider gears are probably destroyed since that looks like the only thing you can weld on a lsd

thats the only thing you can weld on any diff.

pull the cover off the diff and watch the chunks of metal come out.

as i recall the axles bolt onto the diff using a flange. looks like an industrial pipe. theres no reason you shouldn't be able to re-use those as long as you get a tII diff.
