Did I get screwed? Thermostat Question *pics*

Hey guys,

So story is I bought a new stock thermostat from a reputable online source. The thermostat came in a mazda box, but it looks significantly different from the one that I had in my car. Also, "motorad" is written on the new one. Does motorad make thermostats for mazda now, or did I get ripped off? Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

The difference between a mazda factory version and, say, a Stant version is the jiggle pin in your old thermostate. But, may be a case where Mazda simply changed suppliers.

motorrad does not make thermostats for mazda.. that is just as good as a stant junko..

ONLY BUY nippon or direct MAZDA stats,... Nippon is OEM for Mazda.. and of course Mazda is direct for the car.. you got screwed I am afraid

we sell Motorad in stock and they are not the same as the oem stat

Dude, I just checked my "OEM" thermostat and it's the same thing as yours!! OH no. I got mine from a "very reputable but expensive" online supplier of hard to find stuff...and trix.

that stinks. and it's misleading, i wanted an oem thermostat dammit.

Dude, wtf? I just sent them an email demanding an explanation. They are supposed to be very reputable, and when I buy from them I expect OEM stuff. What I hate the most is that they put it in a freaking mazda box!

Bloody cheap asses. Go to your local dealer, get OEM. Is $20 too expensive? Crikey.

might want to drill a hole i have the same one on my gtu and friends TII. W/o the hole both of our temps go higher than norm and high pressure that can cause the (plastic) housing to pop but now with the hole its alot cooler. ive seen somewhere someone has drilled 4 holes not sure how it worked out though

Looks like they gave you the right part Dude.
I didnt take notice to the name stamped on mine that was bought at the local Maxda dealership.
But it came in the same box and part number and looks the same.

mcgarret, your such a great reader! . If I went to the dealer I would get the exact same one! Whatever, my temps seemed to be normal on the drive to work today, so I guess its doing its job. I just got a bit weirded out when I saw motorad written on the damn thing.

Yes the nippon ones are still made, I sell them all day long..

we also sell motorad.. here as a aftermarket junko 10.00 thermostat...

if mazda has gone to using motorad then they are skipping out my local dealer I bought a stat from did not have motorad on it anywhere.

btw the one I bought from the local Mazda dealer was $30. I'm going to Mazdatrix or Nippon next time.

OP, it looks like you got the right thermostat, I think the old one might be the wrong one.

Meh. I had a Stant thermostat in my nonturbo and I just drilled a 1/8" hole in it. I never had cooling problems.

Got mine from the dealership. It look exactly like the new one you have that's marked "Motorad" although ... I didn't notice that mark on mine (I didn't look). I haven't had any trouble with it.
