lol its a mazda sedan. the 86-88 GXL fc's had clutch type lsd's as did all the T2's. the 89-90 GTUS had a viscous lsd and the 89-91 T2's had viscous lsd's. is the 929 a rwd car? i was thinking it was fwd. if it is, then it most likely isn't the tranny that the FC uses.
edit: wow it is a rwd? amazing.

My friend has a 929. He says that its impossible to find parts for, and it is. He was telling me that mazdas are pretty bad for that, and I told him
"its becuase your mazda is unpopular that its hard to find parts for"
He was pretty amazed to see this forum, and how many parts there were available for the seven.
My post has no relevance whatsoever to the initial question

The 929 has always been RWD, I know for a fact that it shares the tranny with the FC RX7, Road & Track said it back in the day
wats the difference between the clutch type lsd compared to the viscous in the GTUS which I think I might share rear ends with ?

Do a burnout, most of the time if both smoke up you have a LSD. Not the best way to find out though, also there may be a tag on the diff head filler plug stating to use LSD oil only.

the lsd keeps you from doing a one wheel spin/burnout that you would with an open dif. much better for hard accel/cornering especially with decent power. the clutch type has clutch packs in it that "grab" to keep both sides spinning, the viscous is fluid filled and the fluid basically swirls between the two sides to keep them both going if one wheel starts spinning. basically the clutch type can wear out over time, but the viscous doesn't really grab that well until there is a big difference in wheel speed between the two sides. or something like that
edit: just noticed they are talkin about this further down the page: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/clutch-type-lsd-382721/

So if I gun it and turn and only the inside wheel spins then I have an open diff ? if I gun it and turn and both wheels spin then its LSD ?
Im in Vancouver now but will be in Halifax next week where there is snow, how can I tell if I have LSD in the snow ?

jack up the rear and put the car in nuetral try to spin one tire while the other one is held still by a friend (much smaller chance of breaking something thatn a redline clutch drop, i should know thats how i launch my 7 and it does break things lol) if you can turn one with the other is still with out much resistance than its probably open diff, maybe not the mst accureate way but it's always worked for us, but if it does share part with the fc than theyer sould be a tag on the rear it its and lsd

Give me the VIN, I can run it and tell you if it has a LSD. Chances are not, but it might depend on the year.
And just because the transmission is the same does not mean it will have and LSD unit. The base model 7's had the same tranny as the GXL's, but they didn't have LSD.
Edit: OOPS, just saw you have an '89. NO LSD, sorry

to find out if you have posi or not...jack the car up(make sure the front tires are securely blocked), put the car in neutral and spin a tire...if the other tire spins in the same direction most likely you have posi...if it spins the opposite direction you have an open diff (non posi)
