diaphram in acv

just curious what the circular diaphram's function is in the acv and if its completely necessary. what are the cons of removing it? it seems that it would act as a check valve for vaccume....

The airpump feeds air thru the ACV to the circular checkvalve b/t the ACV and manifold, to the EXAUST PORTS to mix with exaust gas coming out of the engine.

It's a checkvalve, not a diaphram.........unless your talking about something else all together. No vacuum there at the circular checkvalve with the spokes b/t the ACV and intake manifold.

Required to keep exaust gasses from coming back thru the ACV. Never ran without that checkvalve myself. I can see times where the exaust gas would come back thru the ACV to the silencer in the right hand fender.

It's hurting nothing. Leave in place.

Anyway, while the ACV is off, you might get a piece of vacuum line and put it on the nipples of the acv and see if they will hold a vacuum. If they don't hold a vacuum, then the ACV won't work right and MIGHT cause problems passing emissions someday. I"ve no idea if this is a turbo or non turbo car.

its on my 88 TII. i'm not so much concerned about passing emissions as i am about the vaccume nipples on the acv. i am using the acv because of the vaccume nipples that are present on the acv. i have a block off plate that i could use but when i use it, it is my understanding that it must be tapped for a barbed fitting so that the pressure sensor will still remain functional. if i leave it in place, i have all of the vaccume nipples that the engine requires. if i remove it, i have to find other vaccume sources or tap my block off plate for the sources. i'm pretty new to the TII, as i've built FB's during my whole tenure with the 7. i've had 17 rx-7's and this 88 TII is only my third FC. my only good mechanical experience with the FC was when i replaced the engine on my 10AE. i'm gaining knowledge every dayon the FC, as this 88 TII that i aquired seems to test my knowledge of the 7 on a regular basis. i have another thread describing how when the engine starts and i depress the accelerator, the engine does not increase its rpm's, it just sits there and will stall(has good compression). i figure its an afm problem.

during inspection of the parts i recieved with the car, i noticed that the check valve for the acv was in a box of parts that the previous owner gave me and that the acv was present. upon calling the previous owner, i learned that he installed the acv without the check valve. will there be a problem with the check valve out? should i just yank the acv and install the block off plate?
