diagnose my tps?

i cant find any info on how a tps should act while completely off of a car but im assuming mine is bad from what i read. i would be more proactive with these questions but you cant search for "TPS" cause its only 3 letters. that is just dumb too, cause alot of stuff is abbreviated on this board. im gonna tell you what i have and maybe you guys can tell me if its bad or not. i took my TPS off the car and going from

A to B
plunger all the way out - infinte
plunger a little in(to get highest reading) - 2k ohm
plunger all the way in - varies around 135 ohm

A to C
plunger all the way out - 453 ohm
plunger almost all the way in (to get highest reading) - 2k ohm
plunger all the way in - infinite

remember this is off the car

i thought you need the TPS in the car, and the key on ON so you can have readings on ur Multimeter? at least that's what i did when i re-adjusted my TPS a year ago.

readings should be taken while the tps is on the car

any infinite readings indicate bad tps and that you should buy a new one.

the same principles apply off the car. seeing as how it wont even go near 5k ohm. you have to have the car on if you are using the LEDs to do the 12v test. im doing the resistance test. anyone else? just want some confirmation before i buy. maybe im missing something.

The TPS still has to be on the throttle body. Also, the car must be warmed up. With the connector disconnected, you are looking for ohms (1k ohms at rest, and 5k ohms WOT IIRC.) With the connector ON and the key ON, it can be backprobed and at idle should read 1 VDC at idle. With the lamps, one light should be on and the other off at idle.

lol nevermind. please forget this thread. no one gets that im asking howto diagnose off of car. its just a variable resistor it doesnt have to be on the car. only difference is the plunger isnt being pushed. i know it has to be on and at 1k ohm but theres more tests than that. my tps wont goto 5k ohm. it maxes out at 2k THAT DOESNT CHANGE IF ITS ON THE CAR.

END OF THREAD.

I thought I was pretty clear.

If it doesn't read ~5k ohms (again, and this is of utmost importance, regardless of if it is warm or not-- it must be attached to the throttle body ) at WOT then it is not functioning properly and will require replacement.
