developed a new clicking sound today. Any suggestions?

My gxl developed a wierd clicking sound today. The sound only occurs in first gear and it sounds kind of like a baseball card in a bicycle wheel. The pace of the clicking increases with my rpm's. I recently did a clutch job and i'm just worried a may have screwed something up. The sound only seems to occur when i'm in first and it goes away when i push in the clutch. could it be the tranny? It sounds like a tapping valve from a piston engine. Could i be low on fluid in the tranny? any ideas would be helpful.

the fact that you only hear it in first and it goes away when you press in the clutch makes it sound like tranny.....can you tell the direction it's coming from?

its difficult to tell, it really does sound like its from the tranny. I'm just not positive, It just happened ten minutes ago so I havent been able to diagnose it yet. I also asked about the gear oil because it sounds like a tapping valve when you dont change the oil in a piston engine. So could it be that one of my gears isnt being lubricated due to a leak? There arent any sounds on any of the other gears?

After the clutch replcement, when you first started the car and tried to put it in gear, was there any grinding. I'm thinking chipped tooth.

Ujoint/CV joint

Try rotating your driveshaft. Did you reinstall it exactly or just tossed it back in?
Did you replace the t-out and pilot bearings?
What was the condition of the transmission front cover(release bearing slop)?
Are you sure that the trans is topped off?

its definitely tranny related, the sound stops when i push in the clutch. It only happens in first and occurs all the way through the rpm range. I can also hear it start to click if I just push the shifter up towards the first gear position without my foot on the clutch. The only thing I might be concerned with is the level of the fluid in the tranny, I'll have to check tomorrow.
