Question Decided to have one more go at it.

Picked up a used 87 that was in over all better shape than my now engine dead 89.
First let me say that I searched the post files on the topic I am looking for and found the replies so varied that I am a bit confused.
Starts fine and goes great, but at 5000 rpm she blows white smoke, I think.
So I did not catch this until I reved her up after purchase. Good news is I picked her up for less than two grand and could dump her for about what I bought her for to the next guy. Is this the dreaded coolant seals gone bad or something else? I read several threads where everything from T-stat to cat can be a problem if the smoke is not constant. This one in my opinion is worth working on if I am not looking at a total engine rebuild.

Still hooked on RX's

Bob

IMO oil seals. The smoke should have a light blue tint to it though. Coolant seals that I have exsperianced going did not smoke after warm up.

IMHO Rebuild it or ditch it.

Maybe do a compression check to see where you are.

Sounds like high mileage worn oil seals.

Quick oil seal test:
Warm it up.
Hold about 4-5K for 10 seconds in nuetral.
Let off & gun the throttle.
Look for smoke.
