ummmmm i also want to ask that when would you know that the housing or the rotor is damaged and unreusable without actually pulling the engine apart? he said he was doing like 100mph on the freeway and the engine just gave out...do you guys think there will be any problems with the motor and is it worth rebuilding? Thx

Very vague here.. Need more detail/symptoms.. What makes you think the motor is blown?

all he could say is that he was driving on the freeway at around 100 and it just died. heading over to do the compression check by cranking but apparantly he went to some dealer and they said the engine was "dead" and im not sure what that means... in the worst case scenario that the engine is damage how much should i pay?

Still too vague.. Take it to a Rotary specific shop if you're not sure what's going on.
Looking through the exhaust ports is not a sure fire way to tell the condition of a motor. This would be equal to looking at a girl fully clothed and asking yourself if she has crabs!!
Pull it and tear it open. Inspect all pieces to determine what can be re-used and what can not. That'll determine how much your rebuild will cost.

yep, $500, depending on miles maybe a little more if the miles were real low... then it might be worth up to $900 if the miles were low and the condition of the car was flawless...

Blown motor RX-7 = no value

keep in mind the title and registration factor, i passed up on a free T2 that had no title or real info as to who owned it so some cars can be a liability and worth less than $0 to some people. i really wanted it too but space limitations and no history scared me off.

also to make a note of this, usually when a motor pops it pops one rotor and does not die completely. the car should still start with a blow rotor unless it took a bearing or stat gear with it which is rare. sounds to me like something else caused the car to die, probably an easy fix.... another thing to think about, do not fix the car while the seller is watching or they will likely decide not to sell the car or will up the price after it is up and running, seen this happen many times.

interesting... i just went to see the guy....now this guy claims that his boss did everything for him and by the looks of him has no idea wtF his car has...... i ask him what he modded and all he did was say "o my boss put alot of money in it iono wuh he did". he said he was racing on the freeway at 120 and it just died. He said there was no mod but when i checked he was running racing beat catback and kyb struts. he said he blew the original motor and he got this one at a junkyard in San Diego for 1000..iono how that works but yeah. He said he cracked the turbo and his boss replaced it. no A/C and no radio, no gauges of any kind. iono how the car runs and its been sitting for 9 months he claims. batteries dead so cant even crank it. I offered 500, which should be right, and he said some guy wanted to see it and offered 1000....then he went 700 and i stood firm for 500 and without argument i left. It has no emblem, repainted to black, repaired body damage and other little quirks. You guys think its worth 500?

they probably do but i have never seen any listed for the FC3S though..

KYBs lower line is Gas-a-just for the rear and standard KYB in a silver cartridge for the front, they're not too bad for cheaper struts.

Just to review

You're considering a nineteen year old modded car with a blown junkyard engine, replaced turbo (if the engine came from a junkyard, it's possible that's where the turbo came from), no AC, no radio, bad battery (who knows what other electric gremlins are there), repainted with a color change (to black of all colors, where every ding shows. - You do know black cars with no AC can double as a dutch oven, right?), and it's missing gauges.

You'd be doing him a favor at $500. He's dreaming if he thinks that pile of junk is anything other than a "parts car".
