Dead transmission? Strange knocking
I recently got my car back on the road (engine) and now the damn thing has another problem... I was driving down the road and noticed a knocking noise coming from my tranny and stopped you could hear it click/knock every so often basically when the gear turned? Well it got bad enough that it shook my whole car and i ended up leaving it at my friends because i couldnt drive it. Any suggestions as to what it is? Its not the flywheel or clutch or throwoutbearing so its looking tranny... Oh yeah my pilot bearing in the eshaft maybe a little to far in the shaft like a 1/4 inch could that throw it off? also when i took my tranny apart i could see that the 1st and second gear leaver was not holding its place it would just go back to neutral?- bad sign? Please help

How frequent are the knocks? 'Every so often' is kinda vague. And when is the shaking happening? As you engage the clutch? All the time, regardless of whether it is in gear or whether or not the clutch is in? A more detailed description, please.

yeah sorry its when i let go of the clutch and i cant remember if its also in neutral also the knocks are happen with every rotation of the flywheel or worst case in the gear box because i let go clutch clank clank clank and then i put clutch in and you hear it slow down and stop as the flywheel/gears stop turning

it happens when I first let off the clutch on 1st and reverse. (clunkclunkclunk!. as it picks up to speed) And sometimes It gets to the point when I cant even drive it.. and I noticed to when I drive over rail road tracks when the clutch is engaged and my foot on the gas there's a harsh vibration like my car is going to fall apart. it scared me and after that I haven drove it cause I don't want to cause an accident just in case something does happened.

very fine particles like mud are normal.
slivers of metal or chunks mean you need a replacement transmission.
if the gears are damaged indicated by larger debris, the parts are more expensive than a used transmission is.
the tranny holds about 3 quarts, 75W90 for standard, syncromesh or 75W90 mixed half with ATF for quick shifting at the cost of transmission life(not dramatically but operation will be noisy). 80W90 for the best transmission life at the cost of shift quality.
