Dead spot when accelerating

Dead spot when accelerating
Not really an issue, im just curious cause Ive never heard/seen this before. When accelerating in 5th gear 9only gear Ive seen it so far) I get a dead spot around 80mph were acceleration, or mostly engine speed stops climbing. Sounds like the engine is maintaining rpm, but Im still picking up speed as normal. Around 90mph its back to business as ussual, engine speed picks right back up where it left off at 80mph. And no its not just the speedo reading cause i can feel accel. Just started about 2 days ago and doesnt always do it. its like a clutch slip, but thats not possible as it stands. What the hell is this? It might just be my imagination, but Im pretty sure its not.

You know a few yr ago in one of my 2nd gen i noticed the exact same thing!!! same speed as well.
However since the drive train is directly conected in a manual trany it is theoretically imposible for this to actually happen, given the clutch is not slipping at all.
I atribute it to the gauges having a dead spot and or inaccuracy in them. That is hte only logical reason

Oh I know my clutch is worn, I dont need a warning for that. If Im at full throttle and even touch my foot to the clutch it slips. But what would a worn clutch have to do with rpms NOT rising? I can understand a sudden slip and rise in rpm, but my rpms stop climbing, but I still gain speed. It blows my mind, cause it ISNT possible... but it happens somehow. I drove home thinking about it from work and couldnt figure anything out as to how...
I can start at 50mph in 5th and accel all the way to 80 fine. Then I hear the rpms stop climbing but continue to feel a sense of acceleration and then when the speedo hits around 90, I hear the engine begin to climb again. WAAAA WTF!!!
Ive been <<<
COULD it be perhaps, the clutch slips just before i hear the dead spot, then as it starts to slowely grab again, it gives the sound/feel of rpms not climbing but still gaining speed as the clutch/speed catches up to the engine speed?
