Question Dead New Battery overnight

Hey Wassuuuupp?
Here whats going on...a couple of days ago I got into an accident. My whole front right side is jacked up. When the accident occured I was able to start my baby and get her home. The next day I went out and tried to start my 86 n/a dead no power the Big Nada. SO I tried jumping it nothing....charged the battery, stuck it back in and it cranked up. Then I went back out the following morning and guess what...F&^*king dead battery again. So I went out and bought a new battery stuck it in My baby cranked right up. The following day went back out brand new battery FU$%&^%King dead totally drained. Has this happened to anyone...any suggestions on what I should look for. Could there be a short somewhere because of the accident. Could a loss of a ground cause this to occur or what .....HELP ...S___0...S

Thanks

Pull the negative cable off of the battery and hook a test light up between the unhooked cable and the negative post. If there is a short the light will come on. If the light comes on, start pulling fuses until it goes out. The fuse you pull that shuts the light off will locate the system which is responsible for the short. Sometimes this can take a very long time.

A major impact can damage a battery, just as you have described. If it really is new, you should take the battery back and replace it under warrenty.

Well if you haven't had an impact, hook up your digital multi-meter and see what your current draw for the car is... it should be less than 70mA.

well again I would be looking at what the draw is with a digital multi-meter before doing anything

thats is exactly what happened to me. I got in a crash and damaged the front left side of my car. It started up fine and i drove it home. 2 days later when i went to start it, it was dead. At that time i didn't know what the problem was.

So a week or so later i jumped it and drove it into my garage to start fixing the body when i heard this winding sound after i shut the car off. It turned out that the accident messed up the head light motor and it was stuck on.

That might be ur problem too. If so, thats why ur battery is dead.

Tim

I found my short this weekend. So maybe you'll be lucky too.

I had the two small wires going into the back of the alternator backwards. I no longer have the original plug (long story) so mine just have female connectors on them. Wierd that the car ran just fine that way, but drained the battery, or maybe just never charged it?
