dead motor?? help!

so my engine has about 70k miles on it since a rebuild at rx7.com and i've had it for a little over a year. it's a 87 turbo and i think i blew the motor, maybe.
it had been smoking about a month prior to the incident but i figured it was just burning oil (i thought the seals on the turbo were going out). so i didn't think much of it.
here's what happened: i was getting on the freeway and there was a slow truck in front of me so i was still in third by the time we got on the actual freeway so i just punched it to get around the truck. at the top of 3rd there was a sudden loss of power so i looked in my rearview and saw a shitload of smoke covering the road (it was night time so i couldn't tell what color it was) but it kept driving fine, the only problem was if i tried to get on it the turbo wouldn't spool past like 3 lbs. and it could barely accelerate, although i was going about 70 in 5th (so like 2500-3k rpm i think) i could still cruise just fine, it didn't sound weird, no strange vibrations, nothing. i drove like this for about 2 miles until i had to get off the freeway, i pulled up to the stoplight and it died.....couldn't get it started again either . so my friend and i pushed it to a gas station where we did the "cheap compression test" where you listen to the individual psst's. the front rotor sounded fine, but when i did the rear some smoke came out (this may have been from my dumb *** leaving in the egi fuse) and i heard a sound like a few tiny rocks were coming out. and for one revolution two faces sounded different than the last. but after this revolution (and after i took out the egi fuse) all three faces sounded fine. but i can't get it to start. i don't know what's up. and when it blew out all that smoke on the freeway it didn't make a loud "pop" or anything just a loss in power.
if anyone could help i would appreciate it very much.
thanks

Sounds like you blew the motor to me.. and the things that sounded like little rocks or whatever coming were probably your apex seals, which is what gets the compression for that rotor..

I dont know much about turbo but Im willing to guess the reason your turbo wont spool is because the engine is blown and only running on half the compression it should have...meaning its running on only 1 rotor and not on the two rotors like it should be.

Now if you could tell us what your mods on the car were and how much boost you were pushing at the time your car blew , maybe we could help to tell you why it blew so it doesnt happen again if you ever get the again rebuilt again.

Probably cracked a piece off a seal & spit it through the turbine.
