Dead

This morning my car was completely dead, no power to do anything. I boosted it and then let it run for a little over an hour. When i turned it off again, it had no power at all again. Any ideas? i'm thinking that the battery is shot but i want to know if that is the exact problem before going out and buying a new battery.

Alternator or battery. Maybe both.

Test the voltage coming off of the alternator when it is running, should be around 14v at idle.

My car did the same thing a year ago. My alt was only putting out 10V tops.

Put the key in the ignition and see if you get the 'ignition key reminder buzzer'. If you get that and headlights, but absoluitely nothing else, then check the connector on the single black wire just below the fuse block and next to the battery in the engine compartment. Check it for corrosion, melting, looseness, brittle wire, and just plain high resistance.
