Dash and tail LIGHT problem, need help ASAP

Ok, so when I turn on the lights, headlights work fine. But dash lights and regular tail lights wont come on...

I smacked the dash and it came on! But that only did the trick once... Just got pulled last night and they gave me a warning, but I need to fix this.

I read the FAQ and realized it could be a burnt out light switch or w/e...

Whats my course of action, whats needed to be fixed/replaced, who has the parts, etc.....

Thanks

unplug the harness going into the switch to see if it is burnt. If not, trace the wire down to the onther connector on the lower side by your clutch.

you dont have to remove the switch to see it. Just take the insterment panel off to access the conectors on the back .

try the search feature. Or the best bet is to DL the factory service manual. Here is a link to the FSM. There is also a writeup in the FAQ.

you can jumper 12v+ power to wire that feeds back to the lights. Look at mazdamarks write up for the exact wire, but I beleave it is red with a black line. If the switch is bad, connecting power to the wire will get you home with the lights on. Might want to invest in spicing in a relay per the mazda mark writeup, it will save ya in the future.

the first post will give you the idea.

just got in.. the wire harness that plugs into the light switch spot looks burnt on one wire connection, but it still makes a connection. If the wire is pushed one way it wont work, but if pushed the other it will light up. So right now Its in the right spot, and if I wiggle it when it cuts off it will come back on... its a temp fix. not sure what Ill need to completely fix this. as the piece that is burnt is part of the connection that all the wires come from under the dash.

go to the junk yard and take the whole harness. It is easy to do, then do the relay so you dont have this problem ever again!!!!!!!
